This weekend.. it is not only our May Day Bank Holiday Weekend.. but on May 5th it is the Mexican Cinque De Mayo festival … where they celebrate their feista with an abundance of colourful crepe paper flowers…. I have made a lot of these delicious Carnival Bright FIESTA FLOWERS for private clients, but for the first time have added them to our online collection in 2 colours – purple and hot pink, with metallic gold tissue centers.
On the smaller bloom we have also given you the option of going for gold with some metallic foil mylar. The choice is yours!
May the sun shine on your weekend … x

Last week we received a lot more Paper Balls… we have increased our weight to make them LUXURY tissue honeycomb paper balls – which we think are the best on the market. These new sizes and colours mean we now have the most comprehensive selection in Europe by far … something we are super proud of. With our mini 10m balls all the way up to our supersize 50cm giants!
We are also in the midst of pulling together some inspirational colour packs .. as we now have 25 (count ‘em) colours!
Have a good do x
There are so many new things arriving at Pearl and Earl HQ that we feel a little bit like its Christmas! .. especially when these new Sunburst / Snowflake fan decorations turned up this week.
In delicious rainbow colours, they complement our other decorations and original white snowflakes beautifully. They look fabulous mixed in with our fans and pom poms as an alternative wall back drop .. or hold court on their own at any time of year.
Our Handmade Paper Bling collection and bespoke work has been in great demand over the past few weeks… and most of my time over the Easter holidays with the children has been making bespoke pieces for clients .. #mothersguilt
For one customer we recently made a lot of GIANT PEONY PINK blooms as chair backs for their event (as demonstrated in our dining room) .. and my daughter was placated with getting the ‘rejects’ to fill her room / overtly girly flowery boudoir with!
We are not big fans of ‘chair bows’ and think these make a great alternative for pews and chairs at your wedding or party. At 50cm diameter, they are so big, you don’t even need to put one on every single chair…
We have also pulled together a BULK PACK and you can always ask us if you need a custom colour
We love Doilies at Pearl and Earl … they are nostalgic loveliness with a zillion party and crafty uses.. from jam jar covers to party bag dressing, the choice is yours… and we have styled up a few of our different sizes for inspiration.
Failing this you can just keep it simple and put your cupcakes on them x
NOTE – crafty best ones are approx 15cm and for your plates 30cm

We made some of these giant Honeycomb paper tissue ice cream cone lovlies for a visual merchandising display.. at 24 inches / 60cm they are supersized lickable treats! Available in Strawberry (hot pink) Chocolate (brown) and Vanilla (white)..
Perfect for a summer party or dessert bar… YUM!
More handcut decorations have been added to our collection this week… all made in house from luxury eco tissue paper made in Europe. It is a premium quality made from sustainable sources and dyed at pulp stage for better colour and a sheen at finish.
Our rainbow pom poms are collated and cut by hand and tied up with our Pearl and Earl bakers twine to hang. Each is unique due to its handmade process – and once frou’d they are a stunning addition to your celebration.
Emerald City here we come…
This week we launched the first of our Paper Blooms as well as our BLOOM BROLLY (see earlier post)… and next week more are on the way. Think of it as our contribution to ‘getting Spring going!’ Available in a variety of colours and sizes we will be showing you what you can do with our blooms over the next few weeks. One of the easiest things? Alternative gift wrap.
Plus for this weekend only we have 20% off orders over £30 with code BLOOM20
We have been creating our BIG BLING Balloons for a few years now – helping celebrations go off with an extra large bang with our 1m giant BIG BALLOONS … with a selection of our off the shelf paper and metallic fringed tails.
Behind the scenes, we have also made lots of bespoke tails for our commercial clients and some special events – but until now have not been able to offer this service online…
This weekend, I worked with the award winning local photographer Lisa Devlin on styling her latest wedding couple – the lovely Steph and Russell (see below). My brief was “vintagey pink” and I created this pastel pink balloon with a paper flower and tassled tail – all hand made…. and we thought it would make a nice start as an online offering of what we can do.. YOU CAN FIND IT HERE (in addition to the BLOOM BROLLY)
If you have a special project or event, then let us know – meanwhile we will continue to develop our collection of ‘ready to float’ Bling Balloons.

We undertake a lot of bespoke decoration and styling projects for clients. From visual merchandising displays to film sets.. and a lot of them I cannot blog about, simply due to client secrecy. But we have been working hard behind the scenes finding ways of adding a bespoke element to our paper decoration collection that we could share!
So first up is our collection of simple DIY Paper Blooms – Paper Flowers which are hand cut in house ready for you to frou frou for your own celebration. To showcase them we created our PAPER BLOOM BROLLY, filled with over 100 paper blooms. We first did a version of this for the 2009 Arundel Festival parade (winning first prize no less) but our latest version has a LOT more flowers than the first incarnation.. and is a little more refined.
The Edwardian style parasol umbrella’s are actually from our own (very wet) wedding.. and it took a full day of flower making and design to get a finish that I was confident would work at a real “do”
So on Saturday we took our Bloom Brolly for a spin at the wedding of Steph and Russell .. which the talented award winning local photographer Lisa Devlin was shooting. We think the Bloom Brolly added a lovely backdrop to the vintage pink wedding style adopted by the Bride… and of course Lisa’s shots are magnificent. We have collaborated on a few things and I am thrilled that she is working with me on a new project (hush hush for now but watch this space).
We also made a matching BLING BALLOON for the event … more later.
The first collection of Paper Flowers will be fully live over the next week or so, and our bloom brolly is a project which we take on a commission only basis, simply due to the time involved. If you are being shot by Lisa at your wedding, we do work with her on prop selections by request.
Made us feel like Spring was (finally) in the air!

Our Pearl and Earl Paper Pom Poms are a real hit for weddings, parties, Christmas and celebrations.. and for those who dont like to make things we sell them ready to ‘frou’ as well as making bespoke sizes and variations for clients.
The DIY fans amongst you may already know how to make these on your own… but for those who don’t, today sees the launch of the first of our new DIY videos. Featuring homemade video (bit shaky) a soundtrack from Feeder and easy to follow subtitles.. we think it does the job! I chose to make giant chocolate Pom Poms for Easter… but you can choose whichever colour you like!
Enjoy, and let me know how you get on! x
PS Update: Due to limitations on the license of the Feeder track, we had to substitute it on some of the formats with ‘In the Dark’ by Joi Veer…
My baby girl turned 8 last week… and we hosted a DIY Crafternoon Party to celebrate! The invitation list was whittled to 10 girls and 1 boy, and after consulting with my daughter she decided she would like a “Pink and Red theme with Strawberries, Moshi Monsters, Flowers and Rainbows”… a complete 8 year old mash up! So this is what I did…
Cake – Pink ombre layered cake with freeze dried strawberries and ditsy floral straw name bunting
Food – simple sandwiches with pink and red cakes and biscuits, fresh strawberries and pink cupcakes.
Decorations – Pink and Red Paper Decorations, with pink gingham fabric as a tablecloth and Pink and Red paper straws and party tabletop cups and plates
Activities – Paper Flower Headbands, Giant Rainbow Paper Flowers, Moshi Monster design your own tee shirt (using neon fabric pens)
Goody Bag – Taking home all the bits they made, plus a slice of cake and a bespoke initial cross stitch shoe bag project I made.
All in all, I think we made it work and all had crafty fun (interspersed with the obligatory quick dance to One Direction) for a snip!
Hope you had fun this weekend too x
PS – please forgive lack of professional photography – and quick snapped ‘on my phone’ pics, as I was busy making paper flowers, drawing moshi monsters and eating cake!
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday in French) and Shrove Tuesday are one in the same… a Carnival Celebration before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Some cultures dress up, go wild and fill their boots with food and frivolity before the fast ahead. Us Brits? Well we make pancakes!
Whilst I love a pancake as much as the next man, sometimes I feel like we drew the short straw on this celebration.
New Orleans (a city with an obvious French heritage) is perhaps the most famous of Mardi Gras – with colours of Purple Green and Gold and beads galore being handed out in the streets… as everyone shakes their booty, indulges and parties!
So if you fancy an excess / any excuse for a party (after Chinese New Year at the weekend)… continue the gold, add a bit of purple and green….turn up the tunes and Carnival….
Failing that you can join us in heating up the frying pan, grabbing a few lemons, flour, eggs, milk and sugar – and toss up a storm.! (see our pancake recipe if in this group!)
Whichever way you celebrate – as always “Have a Good Do!”
Following my earlier post about Valentines, this week I have been taking lots of new pictures of new (and some old) products ready for our new Website Project.. and thought I would share some of our LOVE party details.. from Chevron Straws and Tape to Paper Balls, Streamers, and of course Hearts… just in case you are thinking of having a little do x
Valentines Day is on the horizon … and we are all set for a celebration filled with love! (Any excuse for a knees up really.. and a day filled with flowers, gifts and scoffing chocolates is alright with us!)
As you may or may not know, we have been partners with Not On The High Street since 2008… we launched the first ‘personalised print’ on their site that same year… and the fab merchandising team have placed us front and centre for their Valentines campaign with the cutest of photos featuring our various sized heart balloons and a delicious dog, which completely steals the show!
We (obviously) think our balloons make a fab alternative to flowers – and you can get yours here>>
