Celebrations: Big Bespoke Bling Balloons

We have been creating our BIG BLING Balloons for a few years now – helping celebrations go off with an extra large bang with our 1m giant BIG BALLOONS …  with a selection of our off the shelf paper and metallic fringed tails.

Behind the scenes, we have also made lots of  bespoke tails for our commercial clients and some special events – but until now have not been able to offer this service online…

This weekend, I worked with the award winning local photographer Lisa Devlin on styling her latest wedding couple – the lovely Steph and Russell (see below).  My brief was “vintagey pink” and I created this pastel pink balloon with a paper flower and tassled tail – all hand made…. and we thought it would make a nice start as an online offering of what we can do.. YOU CAN FIND IT HERE  (in addition to the BLOOM BROLLY)

Celebrations: Introducing the Paper Flower Bloom Brolly

BloomBrolly5-logoWe undertake a lot of bespoke decoration and styling projects for clients.  From visual merchandising displays to film sets..  and a lot of them I cannot blog about, simply due to client secrecy.  But we have been working hard behind the scenes finding ways of adding a bespoke element to our paper decoration collection that we could share!

So first up is our collection of simple DIY Paper Blooms – Paper Flowers which are hand cut in house ready for  you to frou frou for your own celebration.  To showcase them we created our PAPER BLOOM BROLLY, filled with over 100 paper blooms.  We first did a version of this for the 2009 Arundel Festival parade (winning first prize no less) but our latest version has a LOT more flowers than the first incarnation.. and is a little more refined.

The Edwardian style parasol umbrella’s are actually from our own (very wet) wedding.. and it took a full day of flower making and design to get a finish that I was confident would work at a real “do”

So on Saturday we took our Bloom Brolly for a spin at the wedding of Steph and Russell ..  which the talented award winning local photographer Lisa Devlin was shooting.  We think the Bloom Brolly added a lovely backdrop to the vintage pink wedding style adopted by the Bride… and of course Lisa’s shots are magnificent.  We have collaborated on a few things and I am thrilled that she is working with me on a new project (hush hush for now but watch this space).

We also made a matching BLING BALLOON for the event … more later.

The first collection of Paper Flowers will be fully live over the next week or so, and our bloom brolly is a project which we take on a commission only basis, simply due to the time involved.  If you are being shot by Lisa at your wedding, we do work with her on prop selections by request.

Made us feel like Spring was (finally) in the air!

Supersize Shipments

We have had a bumper season at Pearl and Earl this year, and the popularity of our Bespoke Art prints  is still as strong as ever.

This year though everyone seems to have gone Supersize.. which is a whopping 1mx75cm version of our art prints!  We loved this print that shipped last week that was a supersize version of our destination blind life story in white.  It is nice to do other colours of the prints for people – rather than the standard black which is now much copied, since we first launched them in 2008.

Personalised Loves Art Print

Our LOVES art print has been a best seller since we lauched it in 2008 … so this Christmas we thought we would give it a little makeover.

We slimmed it down a little and added splashes of colour and some of our new favourite fonts…. and hey presto here is the new print.

It is available in 5 colours and you can have the print only or opt for it to be framed. The print only is printed as an A3 so that you can choose whether to frame as is or ask your framer to trim it down and frame it to your own width.

No Peeking at Our Parcels

I had to take a picture this morning of our stack of framed art prints that are leaving Pearl and Earl HQ today… heading to their new homes.  .. the team had been putting on some of our NO PEEKING TAPE onto each parcel – and they looked so cute…

I also snapped some of our new compliment slips which go into each parcel … which our customers can upcycle as a gift tag…

The sun is shining in Sussex… and we have had 3 lovely emails from happy customers this morning – and a record breaking sales day yesterday…  so all in all we are feeling a little proud at HQ that the ‘plan is finally coming together’…

Destination Downton

We have been producing our Bespoke Destination Bus Blinds since 2009… and have produced lots of them for famous and not so famous clients over the years (including quite a lot of MARRY ME wedding proposals!)

But this week we have shipped one of my favourites…  DOWNTON to the director of ITV’s Downton Abbey (my favourite telly Sunday Fix) for his office.

Never has my mum been so proud :)

Jacqueline Wilson Commission

Those of you who follow us on Twitter may be aware that we have been commissioned by Dame Jacqueline Wilson to create a crafty piece to coincide with the launch of her new book Sapphire Battersea. 
Jacqueline Wilson is a legend – and the most borrowed author in British Libraries, selling over 25 million books in the UK alone.  Most famous perhaps for her character Tracy Beaker, she has very loyal young fans (including my daughter!).  I cannot tell you how thrilled and utterly honored I was to be asked to complete this challenge for her.
Sapphire Battersea is due out in September 2011, and it is the second book based on her Victorian  Heroine Hetty Feather, as she continues her adventures and passions in the Circus and beyond.  Sapphire (Hetty’s Stage name) is an accomplished seamstress, who creates all her own costumes.  My challenge was to design a Victorian style sampler that could have belonged to Sapphire, chronicling her life and adventures.
I cannot show / tell you any more until the launch – but the finished piece will be seen first at the book launch and will be available to fans through The Official Jacqueline Wilson Mag..  there are lots of events this Autumn for Jacky’s fans, including her very own festival.. so this really is a very exciting project.
The piece is all stitched up..  and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Cross Stitcher 237 – April

 Cross Stitcher issue 237 hit stores this week – and this is our second cover in a row with my Laundry Day design!  Thank you team for supporting our efforts..  and to those of you who have already said how much you love the Laundry quick stitch project…a nod to my Grandmas Spring Washing Line.
At the back was a sneaky peak at next months issue – which I have 3 designs in… including my Royal Wedding sampler… with just enough time to stitch before the big day.
The overall theme next month is Baking and Kitchens – so I opted for 2 contrasting designs.. firstly the colourful cutlery runner and not forgetting my winking cheeky 50′s housewife.. just because I wanted something a little tongue in cheek!
I personally think the team are doing a fantastic job with the new look magazine – and I am thrilled to be part of the process. Remember you can buy and download all my past designs on our website.

Bespoke Love Cross Stitch

 Our sister brand Pearl and Earl has a thriving ‘personalised’ and bespoke art business – and we have been getting lots of requests of late about offering a similar service with Granny Knits.
For us the challenge is not the design work, but the time required – as we are still a micro team with a business growing at a crazy pace.
But my Aunty Ann (who supports me a lot with stitching skills) wanted a personal version of the Love Words..  and I was happy to oblige, so that we could test out the logistics of offering this as a service.
She was happy with the results, so we are now looking at 5 different patterns that we will be able to offer a ‘personalised’ service on…  This will be one of the first.

Grazia in the House!

 January was crazy busy at the Pearl and Earl / Granny Knits HQ.    The web sites are growing at a silly rate, and so is the demand for Jacqui’s editorial and bespoke works. One Friday we had a phone call from an art director for Sky One, who explained a new prime time show collaboration with the network and the No 1 style magazine Grazia….  See their overview below:

What’s this got to do with Pearl and Earl you ask!  Well..  apart from the small fact that I love the magazine, we were thrilled that they commissioned us to adorn the walls with our art prints and asked for a couple of one offs too!  The brief was left open to interpretation..  and here are a couple of the bespoke bits.  We also did some new versions of our most popular word art…
Granny Knits was not one to miss out too – as they asked for cross stitch kits for the sofas and as a ‘down time therapy’ for the ladies!
We cant wait to see the results on the Telly! .. filming starts this week and we think it is due to air next month.  We will let you know when we do..

Knitted Bespoke Cushions

Granny Knits is thrilled to announce that we are working with the talented knitter Carina – who Jacqui found in the States.
Carina takes a favourite picture (head shot in full light works best) and translates it into a bespoke knitting pattern.  She can also knit up the piece for you and make into a cushion – using local hand dyed lambswool to knit up her work. The turn around for this truly hand made service is 4-6 weeks, and patterns only 2 weeks.
We are also working with her to create modern cross stitch patterns in this same format for you to stitch yourself.

Available online now exclusively at Granny Knits in the UK…  you can have your own 8inch square cushion (made up to your colours ). Sadly this will not be in time for Christmas – as she is already full to the brim with orders (including my own)… but why not bookmark it for a unique gift for the New Year.
Alternatively order a PATTERN ONLY – last order date is FRIDAY  …

Bespoke Favourites

We had a record breaking week on bespoke last week… I have been creating bespoke typography and illustrative canvases and prints since 2003… and whilst there are now a lot of new and talented ‘kids on the block’ us old timers are floored by the custom and sales this year.

Thank you to all who are shopping with us – and making sure that the 2 lever arch files of artworking (from this weekend!) keep me busy… 

Remember that next MONDAY 29th NOVEMBER is our last guaranteed Christmas date on personalised and framing… This is because our talented local framer David is now filled to the hilt and we do not want to compromise on the quality work that he does.

We have however EXTENDED our personalised print only deadline until the 6th DECEMBER..  and our prints fit standard frames available from plenty of high street stores – or indeed why not support your local framer.

Take some time to shop our ART DEPARTMENT …. all the artwork is still created by me in house – and the prints are printed onto quality 350gm art board by our lovely local expert printer Jo and her team.  We are still a small local affair – despite the fantastic growth we have achieved this year.

Please be aware our dates may change subject to capacity…  so get your order in early.

Bespoke Commission

I have been meaning to share with you this fab pic sent to me by Amy in the USA, who ordered a bespoke cushion from us…

She ordered the Camper Rainbow made up as a bobble cushion with a colourful stripey back.
Whilst this position is not it’s permanent home – I LOVE the number plate art piece next to the cushion! 

We do offer a bespoke design and make up service from £200 on Needlepoint and by cost if all you want is a pattern.  We offer this service on our Embroidery and Needlepoint Patterns, and can even create your own special design.
