What can I say? Its Supersize, Crochet and I love it! Another reason to love WOOL WEEK
Its WOOL WEEK, so we are keeping it crafty at Pearl and Earl – plugging our Wooly Supersize Stitch book (sorry but we must!) and admiring from afar other wooly projects for your viewing pleasure.
Today we are loving these totally mad Crochet and Knitted Beard Hats by various folk on Etsy. LittleBirdLucy offer the above knitted version – whilst the crochet hat version below is available from Forget Me Knots Crochet or if you are a stitcher you can get a CROCHET Beard pattern here from Baca Creations (fits the whole family!). All the designers offer various sizes.
We thought it might be an alternative to MOVEMBER or BEARDCEMBER? Are you man enough to wear one? Bearded women one is a bit too much me thinks…
Mr H is going for a Handlebar for Movember – we will post how he gets on, how much we chuckle, and how long he lasts..

Not much to say about this crochet star garland by NAMILIO except how simple and gorgeous is that? Christmas Tree decorations anyone? Too soon? Never
May have to create my own crochet star pattern and share.
PInterest is one of my new obsessions.. and yes I know I am late to the table, but there is a good reason for this…. I knew that when I joined, I would be sucked up into a world of pretty pictures for hours upon end!
.. well I was right! But a new work project meant that due to ‘joint pin boards’ I had to sign up for this sweet shop of prettiness… and on the front page was this madly gorgeous – or too much? Mermaid crochet pattern for babies… in a Products I Love / mermaid.
Sadly the pinterest gal did not fully credit the source *tut* and so I had a little look on Etsy and came up with this pattern … too much on a new born in my eyes – but for a tot delightful – if a little ‘legs tied up’..
hey ho – sacrificing for craft and all that
Erika Knight is a crochet legend… she has published over 14 books on the subject and I have always admired her simple approach, clean palette and technical prowess. So it was with a squeal of delight that I received her latest book CROCHET WORKSHOP from Quadrille Books yesterday.
It is a back to basics manual – aimed primarily at the new crochet crafter. It has a chic appeal – youthful yet classic, and the book lays out the stages of crochet very well.
Like everything by Erika, it is simply shot, has clean lines and a nude colour palette. Whilst I am a fan of rainbow brights, what I like about her approach is that you get to see the work in is simplest form, which you can then colour up or adapt to your own palette.
The book covers yarns from fine to fat, has simple illustrations of the different techniques, and then a great Stitch Library which is illustrated with photographed crochet squares and the technique to do them. This is a great reference library – and I have about 30 crochet books and I think this is laid out the best by far.
The 20 projects at the back appeal to all crochet fans – from the classic Granny Square blanket (which has colour!) to the gorgeous Asymetrical Cardigan.. and little quick stitches like coasters and a daisy chain necklace.
Of course my yarn of choice always steers toward the supersize.. and her rag dog basket is totally fab!
Whilst I was lucky enough for Quadrille to send me this to review – I would have bought it anyway – and it is worth every penny
Happy Hooking JP x

Even though we have changed our name from Granny Knits – that does not diminish my love of old school styles! Granny Square Love by Sarah London is a book that was just waiting to happen… my love of the simple Granny Square is well known – and my cross stitch version has been a real hit…
It is not the most complex book – and there are others which have a larger library of squares. But it is nice to see a book using these squares as finished project ideas.
If you want a library of stitches – 200 Crochet Blocks is rather fabulous.
Get hooking folks!
PIC – My cross stitch granny squares pattern – with one of the giant granny square blankets I crocheted for the kids when they were babies.
More cute hats and crochet .. this time with a Christmassy feel ..you can hook up your own with this PDF pattern by JTeasycrochet on Etsy…
I may just leave one for Santa …
I love the work by forestclearing on Etsy. She works out of Brooklyn in porcelain and most of her work is based on knitted / crocheted form. She knits or crochets the work first and then dips it in liquid porcelain and fires them, leaving a hollow shell of porcelain.
What a delightful alternative to a wall of vintage plates on that spare wall…

I am on a little bit of a crochet tip at the moment (as you may well gather from the posts) – and I was delighted to find these little gems of coasters, crocheted from cotton yarn and sold by MariMartin from Madrid on Etsy.
I have a similar pattern I made for some apple coasters – but it is the zesty lime of these that catches my fancy. Yum
How totally delicious are these gorgeous crochet hats by morgansboutique on Etsy.
Available in 3 sizes from new born to 6 months – they are a cutesy delight … sadly my babes are now a little too big for these now… but I am sure I will find a friends babe in arms to treat!

Having sought feedback from customers and friends, our new craft class schedule has gone live today.
I have been busy concocting a new range of accessible craft kits, which I hope will continue the Crafty Chic ethos that we have at Granny Knits, and encourage a revival in simple homemade craft skills.
Being an impatient lady – I am aware of the need for speed (to quote a certain Top Gun) in our busy lives, so the techniques I will be teaching are quick and easy ways to add a bit of home spun chic into your homes. They will even make perfect Christmas gifts…
So to start we have a HANDMADE FELT introduction – where you can come away with one of my newly designed Granny Knits button pin cushions, using quality wool felts and buttons, you can use our brand colours or opt for something a little more personal … leaving with simple hand sewing stitches and techniques to move into other projects… like our new felt craft kits. Plus you can opt into our November FELT DECORATIONS class should you fancy.
Second BEGINNERS CROCHET – a 2 part study of basic stitches, where you will make a floral brooch and then if you are feeling bold – attempt our hat!
Third on the line up is a POM POM Christmas - using our new quick pom pom makers you will learn how to make a thoroughly modern wreath and garlands to adorn your tree and home. (Yes twitter followers – that is what I have been practising for the last 2 weeks!)
Fourth is EMBROIDERY FOR BEGINNERS where you will leave with a new twist on an old school craft and some lovely new linens for your Christmas Table
Fifth HANDBOUND BOOKS and ORIGAMI GIFT BOXES a full day of upcycled paper crafts with stunning results.
Last and by no means least we have CROSS STITCH CHIC – the start of Granny Knits and my favourite … the options for this are endless, but they do take a little time – so this is a starter / taster class to get you going, and if there is the demand, we will hold a weekly evening stitch n bitch session.
The classes are held in TURF COTTAGE – our holiday let and open studio space – so accommodation and special parties can be catered for. Simply email us at info@grannyknits for more details. In addition our very good and talented friend Chris will be hosting art and design classes in his studio near Lewes in East Sussex. So follow us for more details.
Finally there is a lovely lady down the road from us DENA who runs KRAFTY KIDS which my daughter goes to every week.. so why not check her out too.
You can BOOK ONLINE and email us if you would like to see anything else or perhaps an evening class / weekends instead. Hope to see you there soon … x
