Celebrations: 50 Shades of Grey

50shadesgrey5Pearl and Earl is all about Living a Colourful Life.  We like colour, well I am a little obsessed with playing with colour…  but our obsession is not simply limited to rainbow tones!  Grey is one of my favourite colours. and one of the most versatile, it can be ‘dressed up or down’ depending on what you mix it with.  Personally I love it best when teamed with hot pinks or neons ..  but a more subtle approach is to use the greys interspersed with pinks, for a modern vintage look (?)

But perhaps the biggest influence in styling trends at this moment in time is the onslaught of metallics ..  due in part to the visual splendor of the Great Gatsby.  Grey decorations mixed in make a little metallic goes a long way – and perhaps a little less overtly bling!

Oh and if you thought this was an S&M look based on the best selling book – then sorry to disappoint!  But you can always mix your greys with red room and throw in a few of our feathered masks for good measure.! ..  anything goes x

Style: Great Gatsby Bling

tassleMET-mixedmetals2Last May (yep its a whole year ago) I got rather excited with the first previews of the Great Gatsby ..  posting a trailer preview.  This weekend, we get to see it in all its metallic bling glory!

We have been slowly but surely building our Metallic Collections , like these metallic TASSLE GARLANDS and next week we have a few more new bits up our sleeve!… so should you feel inspired to have your own Great Gatsby style extravaganza, be assured that Pearl and Earl have a full collection of suitably OTT decorations for your needs!

Celebrations: Metallic Paper Bling Paper Straws and Pom Poms

metallic2Metallic Pom Poms… and Paper Straws.  It has taken some time to achieve but you asked for it and we have done it!

New in this week are our Metallic Paper straws – our inks needed rigourous testing to both FDA and European food standards before we found the right one with a real irridescent metallic finish.  Available in Gold and Silver .. and in 3 different patterns – classic striped, stars and chevrons

Celebrations: We love Doilies

We love Doilies at Pearl and Earl … they are nostalgic loveliness with a zillion party and crafty uses..  from jam jar covers to party bag dressing, the choice is yours… and we have styled up a few of our different sizes for inspiration.

Failing this you can just keep it simple and put your cupcakes on them  x

We made some of these giant Honeycomb paper tissue ice cream cone lovlies for a visual merchandising display..  at 24 inches / 60cm they are supersized lickable treats!  Available  in Strawberry (hot pink) Chocolate (brown) and Vanilla (white)..

Perfect for a summer party or dessert bar… YUM!

DIY & DO: New DIY Videos How to Make A Paper Pom Pom

Our Pearl and Earl Paper Pom Poms are a real hit for weddings, parties, Christmas and celebrations.. and for those who dont like to make things we sell them ready to ‘frou’ as well as making bespoke sizes and variations for clients.

The DIY fans amongst you may already know how to make these on your own… but for those who don’t, today sees the launch of the first of our new DIY videos.  Featuring homemade video (bit shaky) a soundtrack from Feeder and easy to follow subtitles.. we think it does the job!  I chose to make giant chocolate Pom Poms for Easter… but you can choose whichever colour you like!

Party: New Chevron Paper Straws

ba1527c3d0e2e23ab1d1cfca4b687bfdWe love a bit of zig-zag at Pearl and Earl - and I have added this wiggly line into many of my stitching and artwork designs, including several projects from my book.  A stalwart of my 70′s youth – this humble line is having a moment, creeping into everything!…

Now it can be found gracing a collection of Pearl and Earl exclusive Chevron Striped Paper Straws..  adding to our Chevron gift tape from last year.  It has new friends to follow, so don’t be shy, add a bit of “zig-a-zig-ahhhh” into your celebration!

Style: Day-Glo DIY

Our flouro Party Obsession began with a post last year ..  and when I spotted these little lovelies, I thought they would be a great way to add a little DIY Day-Glo to your event.

Flourescent spray paint is widely available from your local hardware or crafty store… and you simply need to find a spot outside (lots of air) and put some old glass bottles into a cardboard box.  This will act as a makeshift spray box to reduce the splatter!  Then spray and leave to dry

Neon vases
6 beer bottles
beer box carrier
spray-paint primer
spray paint
in desired colors
newspaper or dropcloth

1. Remove labels from bottles by soaking them in hot water with a little dish soap.
2. Dry and clean.
3. Place clean bottles on newspaper and coat with primer. Allow to dry.
4. Apply several light coats of colored spray paint until bottles are covered.
5. Prime and spray paint box carrier.

Et voila…  a little tabletop neon accent.

Calendar: Wimbledon.. Anyone for a Tennis Party?

Its WIMBLEDON fortnight… a key event in the British sporting calendar, as the Grand Slam tour hits the home of tennis.

In true tradition the weather is the star … but we thought it would be a good chance to have a Sporty Themed summer party with some of our Purple and Green Wimbledon coloured paper decorations…

Press: Country Living Styled Jubilee Party

Country Living this month (JUNE 2012) wanted to style a country chic street party celebration – and we were thrilled that the team chose to use lots of our paper straws, party bags and paper decorations

We think the vintage styling works a treat and we love the ribbon and stamped card personalised additions to our block bottom candy stripe bags..

New Paper Party Cups …

We are getting ready for all the Summer celebrations at Pearl and Earl .. and have another new item to share (and another dodgy photo sorry) ..  we are a little in love with our new paper cups to match our paper straws

New Decorative Gift Tape

Our new decorative gift tape designs have landed at our sister brand Pearl and Earl‘s HQ and we have been playing with them all weekend.  The kids favourites are the BOYS AND GIRLS tapes.. which they have have fun making cards with.
Personally we think they make a great quick wrap idea teamed with our candy striped bags…  or to jazz up some simple brown paper wrapping…. we have 2 versions of our NO PEEKING tape – one is a simple big stamp (240mm long) and the other is a typographic montage which works really well as an alternative ribbon (whether its Christmas or any celebration)

Large Flower Balloons

Big Pink Flower Balloon

Our new Large Flower Shaped Balloons hit down this week – and our kids LOVED them.  They are a supersized 16 inches and come in a mixed pack of 5 colours.

The kids were mad about the ‘hole’ .. !

They can be filled with helium or air and we think they would be a hit at any wedding or party.
